Its beginning to look (and sound) a lot like Christmas! I was so excited when I discovered that my satellite radio had the Christmas station on already. I’ve definitely been enjoying it during my commutes to and from work.
I’ve started some Christmas crafting and absolutely love how these ornaments turned out.
Christmas Mason Jar Lid Ornaments
- Transparency Sheets
- Wide Mouth Mason Jar Bands
- Wide Mouth Mason Jar Lids
- Plaid Flannel
- Aleenes Glue
- Jute or Ribbon
Print out some Christmas designs on to a transparency sheet. Use a mason jar lid to cut out the transparency in the same size as the lid. Cut out a blank circle as well.
Arrange a piece of flannel over a mason jar lid and glue the corners to stretch and adhere it over the circle.
Place the items in the jar in the following order:
- Blank Transparency Circle
- Printed Transparency Circle
- Flannel Covered Lid
- Blank Lid
The blank lid is to create a nice finished backing and also help hold everything in. Use the glue to seal all the way around the inside rim of the band. Use something heavy to hold it all together while the glue dries. The two layers of transparency are required in order to protect the printing on the transparency. I noticed that some of the image was starting to flake off if rubbed so I used a second transparency sheet to prevent this from happening.
I used a few different patterns for this craft. I really like the reindeer. It isn’t the standard reindeer shape that you see all around the craft world these days.
If you have some extra Mason Jar lids (or just like the look of Mason jars) this could be the perfect craft for your Christmas decor this year. It would especially go well with the rustic decor that has been in the past few years. What design would you put on your ornaments?

These are SO cute! And a perfect way to use up mason jar lids that you can’t use for canning anymore! I have an entire little box of them- now I know what to do with them! :)

We used to make these when I was a kid. We used Christmas cards from the previous year, or even our school photographs for the year to make them. I still have some from when I was the same age as my grandkids are n ow.
