This weekend, I decided that it was finally time to change out the wreath that has been hanging on my front door (I’m not 100% sure how long it has been out there, but it is definitely time for some new decor. I had headed to the craft store to get some photography props for a few upcoming posts and saw the perfect item (that is once it spent a few minutes in my craft room). Christmas is the only holiday where I really go all-out decorating; however, I like adding a few touches of the various seasons throughout the year.
Front Door Pumpkin Welcome Sign
I started with a Pumpkin Sign from JoAnns (Similar). It is actually a solid piece of MDF that is then routed and covered with a faux wood grain finish on the top. I pulled out my handy dandy Silhouette Cameo and some Permanent Adhesive Vinyl. Because the pumpkin had a variety of colors, I opted to do an offset of white for my “Welcome”. This makes it a lot easier to read from a distance and it also fills the space a bit better.
I had used registration marks to line up these two layers, but even with that I had a couple issues so they aren’t lined up exactly.
The surface of this pumpkin does take some work to get the vinyl to stick. This is somewhat nice because it is easy to test out the positioning of the words. At first I tried to make it go straight across; however, the pumpkin doesn’t hang perfectly straight so I opted for a 45*ish angle. I like to use a pan/pot scraper for my burnishing tool. It is easy to grip and really push the vinyl into the surface.
I’m so happy with how my little Pumpkin Welcome Sign turned out. I feel like my front door is nice and festive now, and it took minimal work. Do you decorate for fall?

I love wood decor like this! I have a fall wreath but I probably won’t put it out until October. I hang on to summer as long as I can :)
