I love the look of ornament wreaths but have never found the perfect one to buy. Last year during Christmas clearance sales I bought some ball ornaments at Target and decided that I would make my own this year.
Instead of making a wreath I did a garland to hang out with Santa Cat on the front porch.
DIY Ornament Garland
First thing is to glue the tops onto the ornaments (I had a few come off after it was all together and it was a pain to get them back and connected.
Cut a piece of ribbon a bit longer than you want the final garland to be. String the first ornament onto the ribbon and tie a tie a knot in the ribbon to hold it on there. Some of the ornaments I had to use an X-ACTO blade to cut a bit bigger of a hole so that the string will fit easier.
Continue with the rest of the ornaments. They will fall nicely as you start to string them and can be spun around to get the pattern you would like.
Once the garland is finished, tie a knot at the other end to keep the ornaments in their place.
I used bakers twine instead of ribbon, but if I were to do it again I would use ribbon because the bakers twine kept unraveling.
The garland above is one box of 50 ornaments. I have a second box and I’m trying to decide if I want to make another one the same length or double the length of this one.
Have you made an ornament garland? What colors would you use?
