I am always looking for a better backdrop for my Etsy items. I needed something that would be interchangeable and portable. While thinking about it, I realized that wrapping paper would be perfect because it come in a variety of colors/patterns and is relatively universal in length.
After building this skeleton, I had it sitting in my living room. I needed a place for some Tutus that I made; without thinking, I walked by and hung the tutus from the top rack and continued on my way. A couple days later it clicked. This could also be a Dress Up Rack that would be the perfect height for little kids to store their own dress up clothes.
I decided to create my photo backdrop similar to my DIY ladder golf game so I headed out to Home Depot for some PVC pipe.
This could easily be sized for a human backdrop. The cost would go up slightly but buying in 10 foot sections is relatively cheap. The most expensive part are the fittings.
DIY Photo Backdrop or DIY Dress Up Rack for Less Than $20
Parts Needed:
- 1 – 10 foot section of 1″ PVC Pipe
- 1 – 2 foot section of 1″ PVC Pipe
- 1 – 3/4 inch, 4 foot wooden dowel
- 4 – T Connectors
- 2 – Elbows
- 4 – End Caps
Directions:
- Cut the 2′ section in half
- Cut the 10′ section into the following pieces:
- 6 – 1 foot
- 1 – 40 inch
- Cut the wooden down to 40 inches
I used a wooden dowel for the top so that it would be easier to replace the roll of wrapping paper. If making this as a dress up rack, I would probably use another 40″ section of PVC pipe.
I might buy some cute fabric to use as background as well. I figure I could use binder clips to hold it to the dowel or even packing tape.
Interested in a tutu? They will be listed on my etsy shop later this week, if you have custom colors that you would like I am more than willing to do a custom order in sizes from newborn to adult!
