Around this time each year I make a batch of Pumpkin Spice Syrup for my morning coffee. This year, my Pumpkin Spice Latte is a little different – it is made with a Keurig! I’ve included the recipe below so I hope you enjoy it!
Say Hello To Keurig 2.0
The Keurig 2.0 is brand new and has some pretty awesome features. I was recently sent the K550 Brewing System to try out and was definitely impressed. This new brewer features a carafe in addition to just a single cup of coffee. This will be perfect for when we host Thanksgiving and Christmas. In fact, it offers 10 brew sizes (from 4 oz to 30 oz).
It might be a small feature; but one thing that I was excited about was the customization available in how the brewer looks. Not only could the wallpaper of the control screen be changed but the 80 oz water reservoir illuminates in multiple colors. I chose green because it goes with the rest of my kitchen. For power savings, the machine can automatically turn itself on and off.
K-Cups are available in over 40 brands and 250 different flavor varieties. The option to use your own grounds isn’t available; I’m hoping they develop that feature in the future.
The hot water on-demand function would be perfect for brewing tea (for those flavors that aren’t already available via k-cup), or for cup-o-noodles when Brad gets a cold this winter.
Brad was excited to try out the Brew Over Ice flavors. The lemonade is delicious and a great addition for summer parties. I’m hoping that they come out with Brew Over Ice for the Carafes because it would be awesome to make a pitcher of lemonade in minutes.
Now for the Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe:
Pumpkin Spice Latte with Keurig 2.0
Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups sugar
- 1.5 cups water
- 1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 3 Tablespoons Pumpkin Puree
First, add the sugar and water in a small sauce pan and heat over medium heat. Whisk until sugar has dissolved.
Whisk in the remaining ingredients and stir continuously for 3-4 minutes or until all items are integrated and the syrup is at a desired consistency.
Strain through a cheesecloth into a large measuring cup or jar.
To make the the latte, put 1 Tablespoon of syrup into a cup and brew your favorite k-cup into the mug. Add some milk and top it off with whipped cream.
How would you use a Keurig 2.0? What flavor do you most want to try?
Thanks to Keurig for providing a brewing system for review. All opinions are my own.
