After all the crafts this month, my floors could use a bit of scrubbing. Brad and I replaced our white carpet and ugly linoleum with laminate flooring about 4 years ago and have never regretted it. With the laminate flooring, my Swiffer gets a workout. Unfortunately, I tend to run out of the cleaning pads at the wrong time so I started thinking about how I could make my own.

DIY Swiffer Pads

I immediately thought of fleece because it is absorbent, attracts dust and has good stretch. The standard pads measure approximately 10.5 x 8 inches so I cut my fleece to that size, this worked out perfect because the fleeced I had was 64 inches wide so I cut a strip 10.5 inches wide then cut the strip into 8ths.

Fleece can easily be found in the remnant section at JoAnn’s (especially around Christmas – all those Parents and Grandparents making gifts). Just make sure that the remnant is 0.3 yard or greater. Since they are going to be used to clean the floor it doesn’t matter what pattern fleece you find. A remnant sized at 0.3 of a yard would cost approximate $2.25 (even less if the fleece is on sale) and it works out to about 30 cents each.

These pads can be used either wet or dry. To use them wet, I simply squirted some floor cleaner onto the floor and then wiped it up with these pads on my Swiffer. Once they have been used, simply toss them in the washer with all your other towels.

They worked great to clean up some areas of my floors that saw a bit more craft supplies than normal. What sort of cleaning items do you make yourself?
