One of the popular items of my etsy shop is my scrabble necklace. I have lots of game boards laying around as I only use the tiles for the necklaces. At first, my idea was to turn it into some sort of journal but then I discovered some Scrabble font and decided to turn it into an alphabet book for Aubree.
Scrabble Alphabet Book
Somehow I lost all of my pictures documenting the process so hopefully my descriptions can paint the picture.
I started by measuring the scrabble board. Each half was 7″ wide so I made my book 7×7. Using an X-ACTO knife, I sliced along the fold of the board to separate the two halves. I then marked 7″ from each end and cut it into 7″ squares. Cutting it with the X-ACTO knife works best with many light strokes so that the paper doesn’t rip.
To seal the edges, I wrapped them in black Duct Tape. I tried washi tape first; however, it didn’t stick well.
All of the inside pages were made in Publisher. To do this, I created a custom page size of 7×7 and put a text box at the bottom for the A is for…, B is for…, etc. I tried to customize as many of the letters as possible such as A is for Aubree, E is for Ella (Aubree’s dog), P is for Pickles (one of her favorite snacks).
The documented printed with cut marks so I pulled out my handy-dandy paper cutter and went to work cutting both the pages and the whiteboard paper. Since my whiteboard paper wasn’t adhesive backed, I used some glue dots to secure it to the pages.
The book was a bit thick for a normal spiral or comb binding so the wonderful lady at Staples helped me punch the two holes in the cover and pages then use the metal rings to hold it together.
I wanted the book to be reusable, so I added some dry erase paper to each page (similar). I will include a couple dry erase markers to go along with the book as well.

This is so cute! I love this idea – Wyatt is really into his alphabet right now so this would be perfect with big letters on each page!
