As promised, today I have a gift for the guys! I highly recommend you find a place to buy spices in bulk. I already had the brown sugar and salt in my pantry but spent about $3 on the rest of the ingredients. The recipe below made 2 jars (1/2 pint size) and still had a bunch of ingredients remaining. This recipe could easily be doubled, tripled, etc. If you want to make the gift a bit bigger, give it along with some grill utensils or a gift certificate to the local butcher shop.
Signature BBQ Dry Rub
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup salt
- 1/3 cup paprika
- 1/4 cup garlic powder
- 2 T onion powder
- 1 T celery seed
- 2 T chili powder
- 1 T black pepper
- 1 T sage
- 2 t all spice
- 1 t cumin
- 1/2 t ground cloves
- 1/2 t thyme
Add all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl and use a whisk to combine all of the ingredients. The brown sugar will try to clump but just keep whisking. I’ve also heard that you can put it in a food processor to combine; however, I don’t have one so I did it by hand.
This mix is fully customizable. I really like garlic so I added a lot of that and don’t like much heat so I used a smaller amount of chili powder and paprika.
Add some round labels to the lid to let everyone know what it is and remind them of you each time they use it!
