Is fall beginning to arrive where you live? I *thought* we were headed that direction when we had some cooler days last week so I went shopping for some fall outfits, got excited to wear them, and then discovered that we’re going to have highs in the 90s this week. We have been hanging out on our deck a lot this summer, and sometimes I felt like the dogs really should get to enjoy a treat as well. How can you not give treats to faces like these?
Since we’re getting close to fall, I decided to go with a Pumpkin Spice theme; and they are peanut-free because we don’t keep any peanut products in the house with Brad’s allergy (I’d rather *not* have to give him an epi-pen injection).
- 1 can (15oz) Pumpkin Puree
- 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
- 2 Tablespoons Honey
- 2 Eggs
- 4 cups flour
- Preheat the oven to 350*
- In a mixer, combine the pumpkin puree, cinnamon, honey, and eggs
- Slowly beat in the flour
- Spread a thin layer of flour on the counter
- Roll out the dough until ¼" thick (I found it was easier to work with ½ the dough at a time)
- Use Dog Themed Cookie Cutters to cut shapes
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or a baking mat
- Lay out on a cookie sheet, they can be pretty close to each other as they don't spread
- Bake for 30 minutes, let cool, and then watch your dog enjoy a delicious treat
When I told Brad about what was in these treats, he commented that even he could eat them. I agreed; but warned that they would probably be pretty bland since there isn’t much sugar in them. Pip and Princess have been devouring them though. I tried to get photos of them enjoying these treats on the deck; however, they didn’t quite understand the concept of posing for the photo before enjoying their snack.
I made a majority of the dog treats with the mini dog bone and fire-hydrant cookie cutter since they are smaller dogs and don’t need large treats. In addition to these cookie cutters, there are so many other adorable pet items available from Wayfair.
I’m already thinking that I’ll be making another batch of these later this fall to give out to Pip & Princess’ doggy friends for Halloween. They will make such great doggy bags!

How fun! I’m going to have to try making these for our guys, they love pumpkin as we much as we do :)

Pumpkin is so amazing! It helps with digestion problems, for both the “needs a little help going” and the “needs a little help to stop going”. It’s a universal “upset tummy” remedy, even for my hedgehog!

My dog would totally love those!

I just love that this is such an easy treat to make for our dog. I am even happier that it doesn’t have peanut butter in it.

I always love to see people’s dog and cat treat recipes. My dog is rather picky, but she loves sweets. I think this would be something she enjoys. Thanks for linking up for Friday Favorites. I’m featuring you this week.

My dogs simply love these treats! I can’t seem to keep up with their demand for them! I’ve even added a touch of vanilla to the recipe. Thank you!!

What type of flour do you use?
Sarah Gaffney says
Anyone know what flour this recipe calls for ?
Kendra says
I used whole wheat all purpose flour that I had in the pantry. Standard all purpose white flour would work as well.

Unfortunately my dog didn’t like these at all….
