I love my morning coffee. I bought an espresso maker a few years ago when I calculated my monthly Starbucks bill and realized that the break-even point of a really nice espresso maker was only a couple of months. For a while I was making my own espresso syrups and chocolate sauce but that now I have a new way to get the flavor without all the added sugar. Earlier this summer I purchased some orange and almond extract with the intention of making some more espresso syrup. Life got busy and I never got around to making the syrups.
One morning I had a light-bulb moment. All that espresso syrups were was sugar, flavor and water; why not just add the flavor and skip the sugar?! I pulled an eye dropper out from the utensil drawer, and added 4 drops of the extract to my cocoa powder. Here is the recipe that I use now for my morning caffeine.
Low Sugar Flavored Mocha
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cocoa Powder
- 4 drops Orange or Almond Extract
- 2 shots of Espresso
- 10 oz of Milk
I call this low sugar because there is still some sugar in the Milk. Sometimes I do add a tiny bit of my vanilla sugar if I want it a bit sweeter.
How do you take your morning coffee? What flavor would you choose for your latte or mocha?
