I’ve seen a bunch of hymn subway prints on Pinterest and thought it would be fun to make one myself. I chose the Doxology – “Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow”. If you want to see the full song or music, it is number 637 in the Psalter Hymnal (It is also number 638 but that one isn’t as fun to play).
DIY Hymn Subway Painting
I started with a 16×20 canvas and painted it with three different colors then used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the words. I used contact paper instead of the usual vinyl because I wanted the letters to come off easier. Once I positioned the words on the canvas, I painted over it in gold. Next time I make one I will use spraypaint because it would cover easier. I had to do three coats and still had some of the original paint showing through.
One thing to note is make sure the letters have been pressed down completely. I had some bleed-through on the letters, but from a distance it’s hard to notice.
I think this is going to go on the blank wall in my bathroom. The gold will stand out on the chocolate brown wall. For now it is sitting on my mantle with a nice glassybaby keeping it company.
What hymn would you choose?
