Our days are busy. Between work, the home remodel, and spending quality time with Emmett, there isn’t much time to simply sit and relax. I know that is important to take some time for myself during these crazy months because it allows me to decompress so I can really be there and engage with Emmett. Below, I’ve compiled a few ways that I’ve found to get some “me time” during this phase of life. Make sure to share how you take time for yourself in the comments!
Stream an Episode of Your Favorite Show
Emmett doesn’t take very long naps. His routine during the day is generally that he’ll sleep 30 minutes then be up an hour and a half to two hours. Those 30 minutes don’t give me much time, but it is just the right amount of time to sit and enjoy an episode of my favorite sitcom.
Sometimes, that mindless TV watching is just what is needed to decompress and get ready for the rest of the day. Watching just an episode provides the necessary down time without feeling like I wasted this precious time.
Take a Relaxing Bath
Our new home came with a huge whirlpool tub in our master bathroom. Even without a whirlpool tub, this relaxing atmosphere can be created with some bath salts, bubble bath, and candles. It is amazing what a simple bath with some scented bath bombs and a quiet room can do!
Emmett has been staying in the room right next to the master bathroom so I can’t run the tub while he is sleeping, but soon he’ll be moving into his actual bedroom and then bath time can commence at any time!
Schedule One Night a Week to NOT Make Dinner
Ever since Brad and I have been married, Friday night we go out to dinner. It is was our way to end the week and kick off the weekend. We have a handful of favorite restaurants for this Friday night dinner, and every once in a while will branch out to try something new as well.
Since Emmett has joined our family, we still try to continue this Friday evening tradition. As we really hone in on his bedtime routine, we might need to shift it to a Saturday night tradition; however, it is still nice to know that there is at least one night each week that neither of us need to think about dinner or dishes.
Let DEEBOT do the Cleaning
If you have been around here a while, you probably know that cleaning IS NOT my strong point. Life gets in the way, and with a newborn that is even more true. With four furry animals in our home, we’re constantly fighting against their hair floating across the floor. A robot vacuum is a great way to help us clean while we work on other things.
I absolutely LOVE our ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 950. I was first introduced to the DEEBOT line a couple years ago and was impressed with the Smart Navi technology and loved the ability to draw virtual borders in the app to direct the robot vacuum exactly where to clean. Plus, with the Smart Navi, it will go in a logical pattern to clean the home thoroughly. In the screen shot below, you can see the back and forth pattern that it took to clean our downstairs. The places where it went in circles is user error where we forgot to pick up an item (or when the cat decided to hit the vacuum because it didn’t want to move).
The DEEBOT OZMO 950 is the thinnest version yet which allows it to really get under chairs, tables, and couches. Our main floor is all solid bamboo with a couple mats at the doors. We can always tell with the DEEBOT is going over those mats because the suction power automatically increases to really get into the carpet.
In addition to everyday cleaning, the DEEBOT OZMO 950 has the ability to mop the floors as well. I’ve been waiting to try out this feature until our living room remodel is complete, but I’m looking forward to seeing my floors shine!
Within the app, the OZMO 950 will save multiple floor maps. Since many homes have more than one floor, this would allow the DEEBOT to save maps and virtual boundaries for all stories of your home. We have a few pockets of flooring that aren’t complete so we’ve been using the virtual boundaries to block off these areas until they are complete.
With 3 hours of battery life and a large collection bin, the OZMO 950 has no issue cleaning our entire main floor in one swoop. It is always surprising how much hair our pets (and, well, maybe me too) shed each day. It has quickly become an integral part of our smart home.
So grab a cup of coffee, it may get cold before you finish, but at least your floors will be clean!

I love that the DEEBOT 950 sounds like a broom from Harry Potter!
