Anneliese is just over two months old, and other than not getting anything done during the day, we’ve adjusted well to being a family of four. Hopefully I’ll be able to get her on a schedule soon so both her and Emmett nap at the same time.
I’m happy to report that Emmett is a great big brother, although sometimes he’s a little TOO helpful in wanting to feed or hold her. It is pretty adorable when he puts a burp cloth over his shoulder and reaches out thinking we’d just hand her over.
Emmett and Anneliese generally both wake up around 7am; however, Anneliese will eat and then go back to sleep. When she wakes back up a couple hours later, Emmett gets super excited when I tell him it is time to go get her and he runs to the stairs.
Throughout this pregnancy, I had no idea if I would be able to nurse or if Anneliese would be completely formula fed. I had a breast reduction in 2012 which can sever milk ducts and while they can reattach over time, I had no idea what sort of supply I would have.
While I don’t have a full supply for her feeding needs, we have been able to do a bit of pumping and nursing. When either pumping or nursing, a few things are necessities: a big cup of water, a burp rag (or two), and Bamboobies nursing pads and nipple balm.
The Bamboobies nursing pads are made from bamboo and have a soft velour texture. The heart shape is discrete under clothing, and they come in multiple absorbency for during the day or overnight.
The nipple balm is essential for sore nipples. It is lanolin free which makes this a great product for people with a lanolin allergy; and it is safe for mom and baby so it doesn’t need to be wiped off before nursing.
Bamboobies is offering a promocode for 30% off your full price order. Use BABBLEBOXX to save through the end of the year. (Offer valid 10/15/2021-12/31/2021, only available on full price items and cannot be combined with other coupons or used on gift cards).
Over the past few weeks, Emmett has decided that he REALLY loves baths and will ask to take one throughout the day. We try to hold him off until after dinner, and it is all fun and games until he decides to start relocating the water out of the bathtub.
He loves using Baby Magic during bath time. The gentle hair & body wash can be used for daily cleaning and the hypoallergenic formula has been formulated for baby’s sensitive skin.
A night time bath wouldn’t be complete without a gentle massage with lotion afterwards. Coconut oil and Aloe help Baby Magic moisturizing baby lotion seal in moisture to keep his skin baby soft.
Over the past couple of years we have had a few fights with diaper rash on Emmett. We now go on the offensive to prevent diaper rash with both Emmett and Anneliese.
Triple Paste is super thick diaper cream and offers triple protection – to prevent, treat, and sooth diaper rash. It has been dermatologist tested and accepted by the National Eczema Association.
In addition to making sure we always have some Triple Paste at our diaper changing area, I like the small tubes to throw in my diaper bag for diaper changes while we’re out of the house.
WishGarden was founded by a midwife and features liquid herbal extracts to use in the early postpartum time. AfterEase is formulated to sooth afterbirth contractions, and Baby Blues features herbs for mood support if moms experience the blues postpartum.
These in-the-moment symptom soothers are taken by mixing 3mL (or 3 dropper-fulls) in a bit of water. Check out WishGarden for a full ingredient list and the complete line of products.
One advantage of pumping is that Brad can also feed Anneliese if I’m busy with Emmett.
The First Years bottle warmer uses a water bath to gently warm either breast milk or formula (from frozen, refrigerated, or room temperature). Once Anneliese starts eating solids, the basket can be used to heat baby food jars as well.
The touch screen is super easy to use, and I love that I can use a variety of bottles in the same warmer. We went through a few different bottles before we found the ones that worked best for Anneliese so it is helpful that the First Years warmer works for any of them.
One thing we have learned the past few weeks is that we need to be flexible in our schedule and routines. Anneliese doesn’t have a set nap schedule yet and many times she’ll fall asleep on me as she finishes a meal.
Having a bassinet available in our living room is convenient if she falls asleep while Emmett is napping so I don’t disturb him by walking too loudly past his room. The First Years First Dreams 3D Portable Bassinet is super easy to set-up, and I can easily keep an eye on her while I try to sneak in some productivity while they both sleep.
The ease of set-up also makes this bassinet perfect for traveling. With the holidays approaching we’ll be visiting our parents for various gatherings and having a place for her to take a nap will be awesome.
We absolutely love our life as a family of four!
