One of my co-workers is having a baby next month (or more accurately, his wife is). They are having a Star Wars baby nursery and when I heard that I started searching for fun Star Wars fabric. Whenever people I know have babies or get married I have a great time coming up with a fun gift to make (the next couple weeks will feature some of these gifts as well).
Baby Blanket Tutorial here.
Burp Cloth Tutorial here.
I’ve made many of the blankets and burp cloths before, but the car-seat canopy was a new item to try out. I think they might become a new item that will be added to the shop.
I didn’t have a car seat to take the photo of it installed but hopefully you get the idea. I will update this post once I get a chance to take a photo of one of these on a car seat.
All of the fabric I used for this project was from JoAnn’s; they have a lot of licensed fabric available online and in stores. See the Star Wars fabric available online. In addition to the Star Wars fabric, I included some orange minky as a tribute to my co-worker’s Alma Mater – Clemson. Piecing the second side of the canopy wasn’t that much more of a time adder plus it allowed me to use a smaller piece of fabric.
Looking for a baby gift? Visit my shop for blankets and burp cloths!
I’d love to know what sort of fabric you’d like to see in these products. I’m planning on using the next few months to add products to my shop.

I Love these!! I’m a huge believer in handmade gifts for friends and family :) And personalizing it with something that means something special to them or with something they love is even better!

How cute! I just got a sewing machine for Christmas. Step 1 is to learn how to thread it. Step 2 is to learn how to sew in a straight line. Maybe one day I can start making actual useful products like you do.

95% of what I make is still straight lines and I’ve been sewing since I was a kid. If you are interested in sewing classes, I posted about Craftsy classes last week: http://simplydarrling.com/2014/01/get-crafty-craftsy/

Awesome and such a unique gift that the receiver will never forget let alone probably be one that stands out for them to keep.

Maybe you can help. My girlfriend recently found a baby blanket that she absolutely fell in love with. It was a handmade a met with Star Wars characters in baby “form”. How would she or anyone helping her find this fabric?
Kendra says
I’d suggest doing a Google search for “star wars characters as baby fabric” and look through both the images and shopping section. Good luck!
