I can’t believe that Emmett has already enjoyed his first birthday! Other than the month of March, it seems like yesterday that we were heading down to Portland to meet him. As we approached Emmett’s first birthday, I started thinking about a first birthday gift.
In theory, he doesn’t really need anything and I contemplated just putting some money into his savings account. However, I also really wanted him to have that item that was his “first birthday gift”. I started looking for gifts that would be fun for a variety of ages so that it could be a toy that he would enjoy for many years.
As I looked, I found some pretty awesome toys. A few of these have been added to his playroom through generous friends and family, and others currently sit on his Amazon list for potential future gift ideas.
If you are also shopping for a gift that is ideal for a first birthday (or even for birthdays through preschool), I’ve compiled a few ideas below, hopefully they are helpful for finding that perfect gift!
1st Birthday Gifts For Years of Fun
Find the perfect 1st birthday gift that will be enjoyed for many years. A variety of gifts and price points included.
This thing is amazing. Seriously. It supports kids up to 60 pounds! We did add a ziptie to the strap to make it a bit tighter since Emmett is a little peanut in the 10th percentile for weight.
Emmett is such a climber that I've been looking into these for a couple months. They are a bit on the pricey side, but pretty much every single one I have found has been hand made.
All kids love bubbles, and with this bubble machine they can also pretend to mow the lawn.
A play tent is the perfect spot for some reading or hiding while playing. We're going to set one up in the playroom, but it could also go in the corner of a family room.
Baths are more fun with toys.
Emmett is already a fan of the garbage truck that goes by every week. This shape sorter is fun for any truck-loving kid.
I love how these wooden blocks have different colors and textures inside. They make great towers, and can be enjoyed by a variety of ages.
I've seen some cool things that can be done with this rainbow stacker. I imagine that a variety of ages can enjoy them in different ways.
This trike definitely grows with the kid. Start off with them strapped in, and parents pushing; and eventually they can be independent with the trike all by themselves!
Emmett has a similar water table to this one, and it has been enjoyed by kids of all ages.
This goes along with the Pikler triangle, and I've even seen it sold together as a set with the triangle.
