Are you building a smart home? The Internet of Things (IoT) is growing exponentially and there are so many awesome things that have “smart” technology. Brad and I have been working on expanding the Smart Devices in our home and there are so many things where I now wonder what I did without them.
These devices can control a multitude of aspects in your home – lights, door locks, climate control, music, and so much more. There are even some appliances that have been released which are internet capable and can be controlled via your phone.

Back in December Brad and I really started growing our IoT devices, one of the devices we picked up was the Z-Wave Garage Opener and the Samsung SmartThings Hub. I love this garage door opener because we can see whether we accidentally left it open when we leave (and if we did, we can open it). Sometimes Brad will take a work vehicle home which doesn’t have a garage door opener so he’ll call me as he’s getting close to see if I can open it. Now, he can just open it with his phone when he pulls into the driveway. You can also set up rules where if both phones are seen as “away from home” it will make sure the door is closed.
What sort of smart devices have you added to your home?
