The litterbox has been living in our guest bathroom since we brought home the cats almost 7 years ago. This has worked OK because we didn’t really need the bathroom; however, little litter pieces end up all over the linoleum and it will be transitioning into our kids’ bathroom so we were trying to think of ways to keep this floor cleaner.
We decided to move the litter box out onto the upstairs landing. Of course, we wanted it hidden so IKEA came to the rescue with the LACK table. When Brad installed the table, he left out the lower shelf. We have a larger litter box because Pico has some spinal damage from when he was a kitten so this helps him fit in the box better.
Since our litter box is larger than normal; I needed to make it taller than the standard LACK table. I went to home depot and picked up 4 table legs (they have multiple heights). I spray-painted them in matte black so that they would blend into the table.
For the wrap, I used 2 yards of SOFIA fabric and velcro. I cut the fabric in half length-wise and then hemmed all the way around the 4 sides. The “entry” for our litter box hideaway is on the short side that faces out so I had the fabric meet there. I also have an entry on the side so that Pixel and Pico can enter through there if they so desire.
I used velcro to attach the fabric to the bottom of the table so that it could be removed and washed. We imagine that it will get rather dusty under there so it needs to be washable.
So far we love this solution. The litter that gets kicked out of the box can easily be vacuumed up.
Do you try to hide the litter box in your home? Where do you hide it?

That’s a great idea. Since I’m not a cat person, I don’t really want to see a litter box.

I love that idea! I always hated having my litterbox visible when I had a cat.
