While we were in Orlando, we spent some time at SeaWorld. When we bought our ticket to Discovery Cove, it came with two weeks of access to SeaWorld. We ended up going on two separate days – Sunday afternoon after we moved our Discovery Cove reservations to the following day, and Saturday for a couple hours before we headed to the airport.
Kevin and I enjoyed the roller coasters (and the awesome 5 minute wait times). I think the Manta was my favorite, you really feel like you are flying through the air. Kevin’s favorite was the Mako, I almost didn’t ride it because of the very first hill climb (and then almost straight drop), but the sine waves that are on the rest of the course that are actually scarier because you feel like you are flying out of your seat.
In addition to the big roller coasters, SeaWorld features rides that are perfect for younger kids. Jaxson loved doing the various kid-friendly rides and was always excited when it was a ride that would go fast.
We spent some time in the Antartica display so that we could see the penguins. There are three different ways to experience the penguins: non-rider, and then mild or wild ride. We went with the “mild” ride and if given the choice again, we would simply do the non-rider and just go see the penguins. For the ride, you get in a pontoon type car and then it takes you through the story of a baby penguin. The mild vs wild ride is simply how much this car spins and rocks throughout the journey.
One of our favorite things to do was feed the manta rays. to feed them, you put the frozen sardine between two of your fingers, put your hand under the water and then the manta rays will swim over your hand and suck the fish out of your fingers. It is definitely a feeling that takes getting used to, but is so much fun. There was also a display where you could walk under than Manta Rays, it was cool to see what these creatures look like from below.
We also had the opportunity to feed the seals and sea lions, this was actually somewhat difficult because the birds in the area were very aggressive and would try to steal your fish before you got a chance to throw them to the seals and sea lions. One of the seals also kept stealing them from other seals (he was a lot faster and would snatch them out of the air before it to got to the other one).
Our two partial days at SeaWorld Orlando was a good amount of time. We didn’t watch many of the shows, partially because it was a bit chilly and we didn’t want to sit still in the cold air too long. With the two days, it gave us time to repeat a few things and we didn’t feel like we missed out on anything.
