There are certain flavors that I always find intriguing when I see on a menu. Prickly Pear is one of these. It always sounds so refreshing, and has a slight sweet taste without being overpowering. If I see some sort of Prickly Pear cocktail on the menu (especially if it is on happy hour), there is a good chance that I will try it.
Sparkling Prickly Pear Martini
Surprisingly, prickly pear isn’t actually a pear, but its official name is Optunia and is part of the cactus family. However, Optunia Martini doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
This Prickly Pear Martini is SUPER easy to make. I mean, you can’t get much easier than two ingredients (other than ice and garnish). Yes. Only two!
This prickly pear cocktail would be perfect as a “signature cocktail” for a party or event. It is delicious, and also super easy to make. The recipe scales well in order to make multiple at a time so all your guests will be ready to kick the party off with a pretty in pink toast.
Generally I think of Prickly Pear as being a summer flavor; however, this cocktail could EASILY be enjoyed year round. I think it would be perfect for a bridal shower, Valentine’s Day celebration, or a birthday party. It is super light and refreshing so it won’t take away from any other food items during the party.
